$500,000 Raised Thanks to Generous Match Fund and Donor Contributions

Thanks to the generosity of a matching gift provided by the Blue Heron Advisory Group of CIBC Wood Gundy and individual donors who took advantage of the match, $500,000 has been raised to improve the lives of local children, youth and families who need it the most.

In 2021, individual donors gave $250,000 to Families in Need and our Blue Love Campaign for mental health counselling that was then matched dollar for dollar by the Blue Heron Group bringing the total raised to $500,000.

COVID-19 has intensified inequities and amplified the challenges facing vulnerable and low-income families. Issues such as school closures, increased pressure on parents and caregivers who lost their jobs, and rising rates of family violence have had an unprecedented impact on our community. At the same time, the demand for mental health services has doubled. The funds raised will help address these increasing needs.

“We want to thank the Blue Heron Group for its significant investment in United Way and are also extremely grateful to all our individual donors,” said Mark Breslauer, CEO, United Way Southern Vancouver Island. “It’s these kinds of partnerships and synergies that will help our community emerge and rebuild in the wake of the pandemic. We must all work together.”
