On February 11, 2024, for National 211 Day, more than 40 landmarks across Canada, including 15 in British Columbia, will light up in bright red. This joint display, called the “United Glow,” shows that 211 is always here to assist. Here in Victoria, Legislative Assembly of BC (Ceremonial Entrance and Fountains) and Confederation Garden Park (Fountain and Waterfall) will be showing support by illuminating in red.
BC 211 is a hotline and online service in British Columbia. It’s there to guide individuals to the right resources and support networks before issues become crises.
Since April 2023, 211 British Columbia has experienced a 19% uptick in calls over the previous year, coupled with a 30% rise in referrals to other agencies. This spike highlights the growing complexity of questions and situations people seek assistance for. In British Columbia, the top four reasons for contacts to 2-1-1 remain steady (Housing & Homelessness; Health; Income & Financial Assistance; Mental Health).
On 211 Day, people in British Columbia are encouraged to take pictures of lit landmarks and share them using #211DayCanada and #HelpStartsHere. They’re also asked to tell friends and family about the important 211 service.
