What is Youth in Action?
United Way believes that youth voices should be heard and amplified, and youth should be given the tools to make their community a better place to live. Youth in Action (YIA) provides $500 grants to youth aged 11-16 living in the Sooke-Westshore region who want to make a positive change in their schools or communities. The grants are made possible through generous donations and sponsorships from local businesses in the Capital Regional District.
The funding decisions will be made by a Youth In Action Granting Review Panel comprised of youth, representatives from youth-serving organizations, and community members.
Projects Should Be:
- Youth-led (youth ages 11-16)
- Aiming to improve youth well-being in your school or community
- Addressing a need or social issue in your community
- Supported by at least one adult ally (such as a teacher, counsellor, adult mentor, etc.)
A Strong Project Will Include:
- An explanation of why the project is needed in your school or community.
- An opportunity for youth to gain valuable skills and knowledge.
- The potential to make a lasting impact in your school or community.
